SCHMID’s know-how in the machining of highly complex surfaces is the result of decades of independent research and development. Around the globe, leading companies in the electronics and solar industries rely on the knowledge and experience of the technology leader from Freudenstadt in the Black Forest. The name SCHMID stands for ultra-modern manufacturing concepts in the field of wet chemistry, high-performance plants, complex automation systems, highly networked production facilities, innovative energy storage systems and international service. The SCHMID Group employs more than 800 employees worldwide in the four business divisions Electronics, Photovoltaics, Energy Systems and Customer Service.

History

1864
Foundation of iron foundry and mechanical factory.
1874
A "metal foundry and machine assembly" is founded.
1910
Production of reciprocating saws for lumber mills in the Blackforest.
1926
Production of belt grinding machines for furniture industry starts.
1939
The company building of Gebr. SCHMID GmbH in Freudenstadt in the year 1939.
1958
Dieter C. Schmid enters into the company, 22 years old.
1961
Moving into the new company building in the industrial zone of Freudenstadt.
1964
Entering the PCB industry with the inline brushing machine; 100 years SCHMID.
1985
Moving into the new administrative building in Freudenstadt.
1989
End of eighties, SCHMID celebrates its 125th anniversary of company history.
1997
With Christian Schmid the 5th generation is active in the company.
1998
Expansion: In Hong Kong SCHMID Asia Ltd. is established, customer base grows locally.
2002
Entry into the solar industry and establishing the Business Unit Photovoltaics.
2007
At its headquarters in Freudenstadt inauguration of the new Technology Center.
2008
Inauguration of the new building in Zhuhai, production and development site.
2013
Entry into Energy Storage Technology: First VRFB storage container is delivered.
2014
SCHMID celebrates the success story with the 150th anniversary.
2015
Introduction of new module line SCHMID Infinity Line for PCB production.
2019
First PlasmaLine for the production of Highend HDI+ circuit boards and IC substrates.

Already from the beginning SCHMID has been a technology oriented company. Since its foundation in 1864, the family company has seized opportunities in new markets and has created secure jobs. Today, we are proficient in processes that are needed in the growing industries of electronics, photovoltaics, automation and energy systems, and are manufacturing systems and automation systems that are perfectly adapted for this purpose.

Ecology

At all locations of the SCHMID Group, we are taking measures for a small CO2 footprint. An environmentally friendly future is also ensured by the products that are produced with our systems in a resource-conserving manner: whether it is printed circuit boards for smart controls or solar modules for the regenerative generation of electricity, which can be stored efficiently with our EverFlow® energy storage systems.
